Fellow Manorites,

Some of you are new, and never experienced Palace and software and online communities like this.... but, I would like to just give my two cents to all users as a general notice:

It is an old and UNWRITTEN rule that even if props are given freely for personal use from various manors that make them (and work hard to make them too) it is NOT netiquette to take props from other manors and install in your own manor.

It can happen that mistakes are made... yes, it can also happen that a propmaker stumble on same website as another propmaker...no big deal... you can usually see in the edited prop that it is differently handled... and that is fair enough, we don't have copyright to most of what we do and find anyway... lol, but please try to remember, never install a prop directly from another manor.

And.... if you are a user that wants to donate a prop to a specific manor, please donate something that you made yourself, not something from another manor, the moderators have a hard time enough checking stuff, and can't have finger on every prop in manorverse .-)

Best regards to you all,

LOL Bri

Just a reminder for those that feel strongly about this issue. There is the private flag that can be set on props that tags them with your reg code (yes, this means you have to be registered to use private props) as well as activating other security measures.

The creator of a private prop can give the prop to other registered users, but they in turn cannot give it to anyone else.

This of course cannot prevent the case of someone finding the same original image if you didn't create the image yourself in some fasion (original artwork, photo, etc).

thanks for the reply Scots, some useful information there, but its also begs the question, dos'nt this sorta render proprooms useless as the main point is that people can visit and save any they like Confused
thanks anyway,
Jade

When I first wrote the private prop code, provision was made to be able to put them in a drop room or dispensor. However I have to admit I haven't tested that functionality in awhile.

FYI:

1) I tested the private flag on a prop in dispenser with a user...no cigar, they can't get it. This was a registered user, and not mentioning the unreg user issue, but that also maybe counts.

2) We now have...umm 974 props at MP for personal use by everyone, thereby contributing to the variety and wealth of choices in manorverse and for the benefit of all, I think, making it hopefully an even better experience for all users. Other manors develop their proprooms... and it all adds up, making manor richer in content.

3) All propmakers work hard to find and make props, some people spend a lot of time honing their skills at making them just perfect and that work should be respected.

4) And what part of third paragraph of my original posting was not understood? It is of course not a question of claiming or wanting copyright in the technical sense...since that is for various reasons not possible...it was just a reference to palace ...or as I hope,.... manor etiquette among users. That was all.

Best regards to all,

That was so long ago… but as I recall the private prop worked in dispensers and even resisted a screen cap via some clever tiger coding. But there have been so many changes since 2003.. so no telling now...

I am chowned now…

Cheiron,
I didn't misunderstand your paragraph, and your correct about netiquette.

It's just an engineer thing. When I see a problem I want to fix it, or point out possible technical solutions.

I know, Scots, and thanks for your work, it is appreciated, I just wanted to clarify.

I wonder if perhaps there's a possibility of adding the ability to watermark an avatar, or the ability to include an uneditable tag indicating who created it.

Love, Charmy

props and ppl putting them in their av rooms have always been a problem...as i see it, we will never be able to completely be able to police it..... each manor can make sure only props made by their members are put in their public av rooms........... if the unfortunate happens and another persons av gets put it, the responsible thing to do is remove it ........ and an apology is nice too......... props will be duplicated , as a lot of ppl find the same pics.... nothing we can do about that........ we dont need hard feelings over a picture ..... (im done now)
