Hi Scots I was wondering if Owners can be given rights as to change
who is listed as members of there Home Manor as some move or leave or get ban and are still listed as A Member is there A way we can be given a small control to edit our member listed under our homes?

This would be a great priveledge for Owners as some of the people listed are long gone.

Is it possible to change it so only people in the manor at the time can be seen?

Yes that is one of the things on my todo list. Part of the other things I'm working on are related to enhanced community interaction in the client.

The original intent of the home manor was to give people a way of indicating where they were most likely to be found. Since then it has also come to be used by some other parts of the website I don't want to go into to deeply.

Yeah, it would be nice if the owner of a manor decides who is listed. It is also a good way to indicate membership of a manor, if you do not want to use "tags" in your name.
But as LF says.. main reason is that owner will be able to delete users not wanted there for various reasons.

Hehe... I could go into a lengthy analyzis of the use of tags, but will refrain.

We at MP do not find them desirable to use for us, that's just the way we feel, we respect others using them of course, that is their choice of online culture.

But the tag use is not the issue here (or was... since this thread is also an old one).

I still however feel strongly that owners should control who gets to be on the directory as having home/belonging at their manor, the owners are the people that pay for, build and create their choice of manor, not least socially, they naturally feel strongly about who represents their manor here. And since nothing has happened on this issue since original posting by LongFang at Wed Aug 23, 2006, here is a suggestion that could perhaps work:

As an alternative until the tech issues for this might be solved, how about the owner of a particular manor can contact Scotsman and let him remove "undesirables"? ... if Scotsman is willing to take on that job, that is Smile

The owner can check the directory now and then, send a private message (through this forum, it's right up there in Messages tab) to Scots stating names to be deleted... adding names is not an issue, the user handles that after ok with the owner.

If a site owner wishes certain individuals removed from the home manor list I am willing to do that, and have done it in a couple of cases in the past.

Re: LD's comment. There are things I'm working on that will jazz up the experience once they're finished, however in the meantime would anybody be interested in having main on their webpage? That much we can do today with the current java client.

I wasn't thinking about Manor site pages, was referring more to if someone had a personal webpage someplace.

18 and up would be problematic right now as it only works with main which is all ages.

Might be an idea I would consider, I am still working on rewamping our website though. Perhaps you could send me some info on what would be needed?

Hiya Copper, just so we dont confuse things....Scotsman is refering to the Java client he made(currently linking to main only), that uses the webbrowser to experience Manor without having to download and install the regular manor software.

What you are talking about, I think, is a simple trigger link in your webpage to open your regular manor software to connect to a manor, ... something like this:

<a href="manor://sacredwolftavern.manorbox.com/">WDD</a>

Well folks, I sent a message as described above in a post to Scots and he swiftly removed those I didnt want there.
Thanks Scots for removing the folks we never heard from at MP home manor list...

Could be fun to see the other owners do the same, to get all the "ghosts" weeded out, so we get a more realistic view on active manor life, but of course it is flattering maybe to have a big crowd of people as signed up at your manor, and it has promotional value at least...but is it honest? Smile

Maybe it is appropriate here to urge owners to get their users to sign up here at forum too, or even demand it... this is manor forum and everybody that are users of manor should be interested in being here for info, tips and tricks, fun and inter-manor relationships, after all we have common interests and is a community trying to survive in the maelstroem of Web 2.0 LOL...that craves we work together ...lots of talent among us if we pull as a team, I think Smile

The kids want 3D, and Second Life is for time being the hip thing.. or "The There", we appeal to an adult audience that is more aesthetic and not as cartoonish as the latest blockbusters in chat... we should try to promote that concept of relaxation with friendships around globe and aesthetically oriented value combined with the fantastic opportunities here for creativity in a commercial free environment. Maybe something good can come from us all sticking heads together and make some inter-manor projects. What do I know.... an owners meeting once a month or something to see if ideas are possible to realize ... or just to get community starting to think...?
