While we were creating the halloween tour in WM we discovered that Mac users were deaf in our tour. Problem was we were using RIFF header mp3's which works great on windows systems but apparently not on Mac systems. Mac system requires PCM wav format. The problem with PCM is that it is very big, usable for short sounds but definitely not for longer music files.
My point is that Manor needs a compressed sound format that works for Windows AND Mac systems.

Thanks for reading,

Lisa

aLaw and muLaw compression does work for both. MP3 compression doesn't work for older versions of Windows either, at least not unless additional libraries are installed.

I am battling with the Mac's MP3 codecs, and will eventually get them working.

Compressed music format? U-Law is a telephony app format. u-Law is very similar to A-Law, a variation of u-Law found in Europe. This encoding format compresses 16-bit audio down to 8 bits (for a 2:1 compression) with a dynamic range of about 13-bits. I don't think that would work for music .. quality or file size.

Albeit the deaf Macs, a couple of handy Manor programs are AudioCommander and Wavemp3.
AudioCommander can go from any format to any format and Wavemp3 will fib the file header to Manor happiness.

You can get this Win utility here.

This topic has not been discussed for a while so I thought it was about time it was resurrected to remind Carl that we do still require a good compressable sound format which is compatible for both Window and Mac's users so all can enjoy sounds played in Manor. I'm sure you have not forgotton Carl, but it is good to keep interested topics in focus.
